R is for Reconnecting

Ah don't you hate when technology turns against you and becomes a nuisance? When your call is reconnecting, it can be so irritating and often times it seems to happen when you have something very important to say—is it on purpose?! My internet connection wasn't the best in the past and we had a lot of issues especially during video calls. Everything we rely on when we are apart is the internet so when it becomes a hindrance, it can really test our patience. “Reconnecting” mostly happens during our pillow talks. So it's even worse considering that at night you're tired and not in the mood to be interrupted by some technical issues. It's so weird because sometimes we don't even know when the call is reconnecting for the other person and so more than once, I've found myself talking alone for a few seconds only to realize later on that my bf had missed all of it lol. Lately however, this situation has improved since I upgraded my internet speed and my bf's connection is great. We always use @whatsapp because we've found it to be the best option for long voice calls. Plus, we simply got used to it given that in the beginning of our relationship I had an Android phone and my bf, an iPhone so it became our go-to app that worked for both of us.

On occasion, “reconnecting” can become dreadful because it makes the whole distance situation feel very real. It's during those times when you realize how far away you really are from your partner and the one single thing you have to rely on (the internet) happens to be failing you. Fortunately, when it happens, it's very brief and we can continue talking just fine afterwards. Also, when you rationalize it more, the internet encompasses so many communication options that you would virtually never run out of alternatives to reach your SO. At its worst, we had to resort to sending each other voice notes for the night. It's really no biggie. We are very lucky to live in an era which is clearly favorable for LDRs thanks to how advanced internet connection is worldwide. I'll expand more on this in letter V.
